My responsibilities as a student staff member were to aid in the support of residents of a group home. Residents were of senior age, afflicted with mental disabilities (i.e. Down Syndrome, Autism, Dementia, etc.), and one resident who was blind. I had responsibility in tasks such as preparing meals for the residents, guiding the residents around the home, keeping an eye on them whilst they were eating to avoid choking hazard, and more.I supported the staff in whatever helped they needed other than in the residents medication or hygiene related practices. I was also given projects by my supervisor to file backlogged files of the residents and also observed, studied and interacted as much as possible with the residents to gain better understanding and experience with individuals that have the same or similar impairments as the residents of the group home.
