When I was young, my parents bought me an encyclopedia set. Those books changed the trajectory of my life. Reading them night after night sparked my curiosity about the world and my love of learning. I’ll never forget the joy I felt on those frequent nights I spent going down intellectual rabbit-holes and not wanting to sleep until I understood more. This curiosity has never left me, and it never will. I don’t want to only know “what”; I also want to know “why” and “how”. Around this time, I also started to write – stories, play dialogue, poems, or my thoughts about my favorite sports teams – it didn’t matter. I felt like I had stories I had to tell, and I loved creating something new and unique using words. I’m forever thankful that my parents put those books in my room. The curiosity about the world and the power of storytelling they imparted have always been with and guided me.For almost twenty years, I’ve been able to exercise my intellectual curiosity and love of storytelling in my career, first working in communications for elected officials and now as a Communications Manager at Deloitte. Each day at work I get to learn something new and determine how to turn sometimes complex information into relatable and understandable stories. Those quiet nights reading my encyclopedias served as my training ground for my future life. For me, the learning never ends. I enjoy reading primarily non-fiction books or listening to audiobooks. I particularly like combining my curiosity with my love of physical fitness by listening to audiobooks during my daily visits to the gym. And, I’m paying it forward. My wife, Patty, and I have three kids and they frequently see me with a book in my hands or participate in discussions with me about many different topics.
