The history program at Marist College emphasizes research through different mediums as well as, writing, analysis, and critical thinking skills. Due to this I have a strong understanding of archiving in the modern age, digital databases, and academic journal search engines. Success in research is gained through utilizing many forms of mediums, narrowing the topic, and staying organized. I have the skills to present my research projects to in-person meetings or analyze in a clear and concise presentation. Having spent the better part of the past three years working as an aide in a physical therapy outpatient clinic, I have learned many skills that go beyond the field of physical therapy. I’ve learned how to work both independently helping to teach patients their exercises, and as a team, assisting the therapist at the clinic with whatever they need. Communication is also a very important aspect of the job and a skill I have acquired while working in a professional setting with medical staff and patients. Added to this I spent most of last summer interning at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum. Here I did research for the museum looking into online archives and databases. I also did work in the field, traveling to both the state archives in Hartford and Stonington Village. I believe that my combined experiences over these past few years will help me complete the tasks laid out efficiently and effectively.
