Having completed my Cadetship with Ship Safe Training Group Ltd with a Degree in Marine Studies -Merchant Shipping (Hons) from the University of Plymouth, I received my Certificate of Competency II/1Deck OOW - Unlimited in 2013. During my cadetship I was lucky enough to gain experience on manydifferent types of vessels, including Container, Bulk Carrier, Cable Repair, Dive Support and Tall Ship sailingships.Over the next 7 years I worked on a variety of vessels, including medium and large Cruise ships such asthe 'Queen Mary 2', 'Queen Elizabeth', 'Oriana' and 'Aurora' with Carnival UK, as well as the Jubilee SailingTrust's two square-rig sailing vessels 'Tenacious' and 'Lord Nelson'.During this time I developed my skills as a Deck Officer, which included duties in Passage Planning,Maintenance, Public Relations, Public Speaking, as well as Leadership and Teaching roles. A large trainingfocus within Carnival UK was in Bridge Team Management which gave me excellent experience in operating and managing a range of roles within a number of high-intensity environments. My time working with the Jubilee Sailing Trust, a charity who's mission is to foster greater integration between the disabled and able-bodied, I believe gave me a unique perceptive into the industry rarely found elsewhere.I'm now looking to expand my horizons and move to a shore-based part of the industry. In particular I believe my knowledge of the Operational side of the maritime industry lends itself well to this transition. In particular my familiarity with the new technologies surrounding the industry, such as ECDIS and electronic based publications, counterbalances well with my experience of the more traditional technologies of GMDSS, RADAR and paper-based passage planning.I look forward to finding a new challenge within the shore-side aspect of the Maritime Industry thatlends itself to the range of skills and experience that I've accrued since my qualification.
