The program’s culminating event consisted of a two-week trip to Vietnam to meet with government agencies from both the Vietnamese and U.S. governments, as well as several NGOs and government contractors working on ridding the country of the remaining hazards. The main focus areas were the removal of unexploded ordnance and cleaning up sites contaminated with toxic defoliants such as Agent Orange. The trip also met with hospital officials and patients at a clinic for those affected by Agent Orange. Upon returning from Vietnam, students conducted original research on the topic, while also coming up with solutions and advocating for those solutions win US government officials and members of Congress.
