About Christopher Dill
Let's do good things. My current career goals are to promote and drive the decentralization of the traditional bulk electric system towards a more reliable “integrated decentralized” structure with thoughtful financially viable integration into wholesale energy markets. Operationally these new assets if implemented correctly will only strengthen our current power system and provide transmission and balancing authority operators additional tools for managing real time power and voltage control, as well as load/generation balancing. This new model of energy localization will still utilize transmission level assets to connect distribution nodes. However the increased need for connectivity and the proliferation of Distributed Energy Resource Aggregation will place additional demands on distribution level assets to be a gatekeeper of grid reliability at this level, as well as allow for these distributed resources to interact with wholesale energy markets. This branched or fractal structure of distributed but traditionally connected energy resources should include residential/commercial installations, collecting into micro-grids, to local distribution providers defined by a single traditional transmission-distribution substation, to the BES transmission system operator or balancing authority, and finally to the entire regional interconnection. These grids-within-grids will ultimately strengthen the larger system as a whole as well as provide financial mechanisms for their adoption.
