As a team supervisor I have worked across several campuses at the University of Edinburgh, supervising the service operations of the campus AV/IT service team, ensuring a consistent, high level and professional service is given to the end user. This service ranges from supporting technology in learning spaces, running the busy AV equipment loan service through to equipment maintenance and supporting both internal and external events.My professional experience in Audio Visual and Information Technology gives me an insight into the requirements of end users, allowing me to clearly see the needs of the users and provide guidance, the correct equipment, and a high level of service, while also passing on my skills and knowledge to my team, enhancing their learning and skills set.In my current role, I construct weekly rotas to ensure staffing levels adequately meet the demand, often allocating staff to other areas of the university campus to assist their colleagues, while also stepping in myself to cover when required. While providing a high level of service, this also ensures that there is a level of resilience in my team to cover absences or busy periods. I train, support, and motivate my team, working with them to set personal, specific, measurable, and achievable objectives for each team member.I am aware of the procurement process and often purchase stock; ensuring the campus has the required level of equipment and consumables to meet demand. This purchasing ranges from ordering batteries to procuring new equipment for our loan stock, gathering quotes from outside contractors, assessing the information provided and ensuring the products purchased provide value for money and are fit for purpose.As AV and IT are becoming more interconnected across the university, I have developed good working relationships with other departments in the University, primarily the Networks and Desktop Services sections. This has allowed a more joined up way of working to resolve issues which may be common across several departments.
