Working in the IALS library, one of the leading international law libraries, has given me the skills to advance my career. I have gained experience in all areas of the library, starting in academic service: working on a busy enquiry desk addressing a range of queries from a varied userbase of postgraduates and legal professionals, and assisting with IT related problems.I have used my problem solving and creative abilities to improve library signage making shelves cleaner and easier to read. my new signs were met with praise from the entire library team.I have experience working within IALS document delivery service; creating high quality scans of legal materials in an efficient manner. This also involved interpreting citations and handling fragile materialsI have developed knowledge of legal systems and foreign law, having attended training sessions on global law systems and methods of finding legal materials.I have worked in continuations, getting involved in all areas of item check in, including sorting daily post, assigning classmarks, editing bibliographic and MARC records, and preparing the item for shelves.During my time at the IALS library I have undergone several projects: including creating a document preservation database and accompanying manual, redesigning library signage, and maintaining the CLRT: current legal research topics database.I have also been an integral part of a large scale reclassification project in order to move a large amount of older open shelf material to a closed basement. This has required excellent organizational skills, co-ordination with other team members, good knowledge of library software, and fast work rate in order to complete the project to the desired timescale.

I was able to convince the department to take me on as a paid intern in order to undertake a renovation project of the 2500+ items in the department's zoological collection which was in dire need of management.
