Chris is a Certified Wildlife Biologist and graduate of the University of Montana. He's lived in northern Manitoba for over 40 years spending most of his career working out of The Pas. In the early years he worked for Ducks Unlimited Canada as a regional biologist in the massive Saskatchewan River Delta. In 1990 Chris left DUC and worked as a wildlife biologist in forest management planning for industry including for Repap Manitoba and then Tolko Industries. In 2000 he returned to DUC where he has worked on public land wetland conservation initiatives in the boreal forest of Canada. Over the years he worked as a field biologist, helped develop forest industry best management practices, worked on environmental impact assessments and land-use planning initiatives.Chris retired from Ducks Unlimited Canada in December 2017 as Head of Boreal Conservation Programs. The focus of this work was to deliver wetland and waterfowl conservation initiatives on public land. This was accomplished by working with industry to enhance their planning and operating practices, helping establish wetland rich protected areas and working with government to enhance wetland protection policies. He was also responsible for coordinating DUC's forest industry relationships with the goal of helping the forest industry enhance their environmental performance relative to wetland conservation. He is currently president of Citizens for Protecting Our Northern Waterways, a regional non-profit dedicated to preventing the spread of the invasive Zebra Mussels into the pristine northern Manitoba waterways. Additional responsibilities during his career include:- Board of Directors for the Saskatchewan Forestry Centre including vice-chair (2005-2009)- Member of DUC Boreal Program Management Team - Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Resources Committee - 5 years. Key activities included representing DUC on the environmental chamber and working on the task force responsible for the revision of the 2010-2014 Forest Management Certification Standard that resulted in the incorporation of wetland conservation components in the 2014-2019 SFI Standards. Completed his tenure as the Chair of the Resources Committee in 2018.
