At the heart of my drive lies one thing: people. Every one of us has our own distinct story with its own joys, heartbreaks, shortcomings, and victories (all fascinating stories in and of themselves!). These all connect and influence our vision, why we do what we do, and who we are. Each is so different, and yet curiously similar at the same time. Learning more about others, and helping us all to understand our stories is where my greatest passion lies.As a teenager I spent my summers as a camp counselor in the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina, where I saw a plethora of different people from all different backgrounds come to camp. They sought friends, fun, adventure, and meaning; each coming from different places with different ways of viewing the world. In school, I volunteered as a student ministry leader with middle schoolers in Clarendon Hills/Hinsdale, Illinois where I again had the pleasure of seeing just how different, and yet similar, we all are in our lives.It was this experience that led me to work this past year at HoneyRock. Through helping plan and facilitate the gap year program there I had hoped to learn more about providing space for people (youth mostly) to grow and learn, potentially entering the outdoor camp programming field afterwards. But my time spent here living and building relationships with the gap year students and my coworkers has really shown me that my interest lies not in simply providing the space for others to learn, develop, and grow, but in serving as a relational part of this process.I am articulate, a good listener, and a fast learner, and hope to use these skills in building relationships and helping others to connect. I see these skills working most though a future in counseling or social work, and plan on going to grad school, but I’m always open to any opportunities to use these skills, and love trying new things!If you hadn’t guessed it already, I love stories!
