Lauderdale Field Station area of responsibility which includes: a staff of 51 individuals, 213 miles of canals, 127 miles of levees, 37 water control structures, seven pump stations, and four water conservation areas. Responsible for: $8.6 million budget preparation and management for the Field Station; developing annual and long-term work plans for seven work groups; dealing with right-of-way issues and land owners; completing performance reviews for assigned staff; hire staff and conduct disciplinary actions up to and including termination.

Managed the daily operations and maintenance, capital improvements and planning for the Okeechobee Field Station area of responsibility which includes: a staff of 54 individuals, 431 miles of canals, 626 miles of levees, 65 water control structures, 10 pump stations, seven navigational boat locks and three stormwater treatment areas. Responsible for: $9.5 million budget preparation and management for the Field Station; dealt with right-of-way issues and land owners, developed an apprenticeship program to encourage a committed lifelong workforce; complete performance reviews for assigned staff; hire staff and conduct disciplinary actions.

Managed a crew with the responsibility of operating and maintaining water control structures to prevent flooding and manage water flow through south central Florida. Job responsibilities included: ensure preventative maintenance is performed on time for water control structures and affiliated buildings; make certain that necessary repairs are completed to keep structures operational; coordination of annual infrastructure inspection and reporting program with SFWMD staff from various departments for submission to the United States Army Corps of Engineers; act as Field Station representative for construction project reviews and meetings, staff scheduling; budget preparation; completed performance reviews for assigned staff; and hired staff.

Managed all aspects of the City of Griffin’s stormwater utility including: Phase II Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System permit compliance; completed National Pollution Discharge Elimination System wastewater annual reports; contract management for watershed management and protection plans; operation and maintenance of storm sewer system; erosion and sedimentation plan review and inspection of construction sites; and an annual budget of $2 million. Coordinated public participation and education for the citizens of Griffin and surrounding areas. Assisted in floodplain management by increasing the Community Rating System score from a 7 in 2008 to a 5 in 2011, becoming the first level 5 community in Georgia. Selected for the Public Education Award Program of the Year from the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP, Nov 2009) and Stormwater Program of the Year award from the GAWP (May 2010). Coordinated annual stormwater workshop including lectures and field demonstrations for over 200 attendees. Conducted annual in house training for over 100 Public Works employees. Prepare Stormwater Utility Annual Report for publication in the local newspaper and annual informational brochures for inclusion with utility bills. Oversaw capital improvement projects to improve and rehabilitate the storm sewer system.

Conducted final data analysis and report preparation for a large-scale, long-term ecological restoration research project located in the Florida Everglades that took place from 2005 through 2009.
