My main task was to report and oversee reporting on government, macroeconomics, policy making in general and some corporate shenanigans in a G7 country at a time of immense Europe-wide strain. I also helped guide a team of reporters covering local companies. Funnily, I moved to Rome expecting to witness Silvio Berlusconi's exit from the political stage.

I co-founded and then ran a four-page zoned insert for Italy of the International Herald Tribune. This was wildly fun though absurdly gruelling and involved training reporters - many of whom went on to professional success - and mustering a roster of outside commentators and somehow riding herd so that we met the printing deadline six days a week.
