I am currently a Senior Research Scientist at Brooks Running.I lead and manage a multidisciplinary team of scientists to conduct research on the mechanics of running and the influence of product on running performance to develop new insights, technologies, and products that will enhance the running experience. In this role I use my knowledge of running biomechanics and scientific methods to create and execute research programs aligned with brand initiatives.Previously I was a Biomechanics Research Scientist on the research side of the lab where it was my responsibility to help plan and execute new studies to continue to move the science of running biomechanics forward. This includes anything from helping to come up with future concepts prototypes for testing, to novel studies to learn more about the unique way each individual moves.Prior to working on the research side of the lab I was a Biomechanics Research Associate focusing on product assessment. In this role I worked closely with the product teams to improve the performance of our products. I did this by testing prototypes in the biomechanics lab and generating detailed reports outlining the performance of the prototypes and recommendations for improvement based biomechanical variables and subjective feedback.I have a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte where I studied Biomechanics. I received my bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering with a focus in Biomechanics from North Carolina State University in May 2011.While at UNC Charlotte I gained valuable research experience. As a graduate research assistant I worked on several different research projects. These included a falls prevention study using wearable sensors to analyze the falls risk of patients. For this project, I gathered data as well as helped develop custom algorithms to analyze the data obtained from the sensors. I also helped collect data for an ACL study using 3D motion capture, and assisted with stress testing of rat femurs and cadaver bicep tendons.For my master’s thesis, I am studied the biomechanics of the golf swing. Specifically, I am used the kinematics and kinetics calculated from 3D motion capture to see if externally rotating the target side foot during a golf swing may help to reduce the forces and torques applied to the knee joint, and possibly prevent pain and injury.
