For my second rotation in BP's Downstream Challenge Program, I worked as a hydroprocessing engineer in BP's central engineering support group. As such, my responsibilities included providing assistance and oversight with turnarounds at our U.S. refineries, modeling and related work aimed at mitigating corrosion in hydroprocessing units across all of BP's refineries, providing technical assistance to our refineries for hydroprocessing projects and catalyst selection, as well as assistance with trouble shooting issues and performing root cause failure analyses.Outside of my day-to-day job responsibilities, I enjoyed actively participating in U.S. campus recruiting for BP and I was also the site lead for the New Hire Network business resource group. This group served to assist new hires, typically those recently graduated from college, with their adjustment to the work place. We organized presentations on topics such as building ones personal brand, how to network effectively, dressing for success, etc. Additionally, we provided excellent opportunities for new hires to network with and get to know people from other parts of the business, leadership opportunities to practice their management and leadership skills, as well as a place to get to know colleagues more personally, with the goal of creating a more inclusive and comfortable work environment.

I was part of the BP Downstream Challenge Program, which is a program focused on recent graduates to expose us to various aspects of the company and expedite the development of both technical and soft skills. My first rotation was working in BP's Technology Development group, specifically with our pilot plants. I was responsible for our delayed coking and fluid catalytic cracking pilot plants, which are used to test different catalysts and feed stocks to understand the impacts they would have implementing them in a refinery.

I was an undergraduate teaching assistant for the "Introduction to Alternative Energy" section of ENG 100. I taught two weekly laboratory sections in which students conducted experiments to gain a fundamental understanding of solar cells, fuel cells, and biofuels. I held weekly office hours and provided support and feedback for both the students and the primary faculty instructor. Additionally, I graded exams, homework's, and laboratory reports.

As part of a laboratory that is focused on converting micro algae into usable biofuels, my role was to investigate the catalytic upgrading of these biofuels. I conducted work on a kinetic model for the deoxygenation of o-cresol, with the end goal being to adapt this model to the removal of oxygen heteroatoms from crude bio-oil.
