My name is Christopher Ferro, and I recently graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Some of my strengths include public speaking, technical writing, part design using SolidWorks, and any of the Microsoft Office suite programs (including Word, Powerpoint, Excel, etc.). My previous work experiences in the field of engineering include JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) and APEP (Advanced Power and Energy Program). During the summer of 2013, I worked as a intern at JPL, creating a torque measurement device for small piezoelectric motors. This job consisted of researching potential designs, choosing the most effective and efficient once, and turning the design into a reality. Once the device was created, I implemented it into the piezoelectric system, taking data from the motor at various frequency intervals. Toward the end of my internship, I presented my work to my supervisors and peers, along with the steps I took to achieve my goal. At the Advanced Power and Energy Program, located on the campus of the University of California Irvine, I assisted in a project that combined fuel cell technology with server racks generated from Microsoft. The end goal of the project was to have a fuel cell power several server racks very efficiently while creating no outside pollution. Initially, the project used a PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) fuel cell to power the server racks at lower temperatures. Gradually, a SOFC (Solid Oxide Fuel Cell) was used to power the server racks at higher temperatures. Since an SOFC generates a large amount of heat, it was decided that a Waste Heat Recovery System be implemented as well. During my time at APEP, I assisted in researching and developing this Waste Heat Recovery System. However, the SOFC did not arrive until toward the end of my time at the company and I never saw the Waste Heat Recovery System installed.
