At FilmLight I developed software in C/C++ and OpenGL for high performance, clustered, Linux based, high end film and video finishing systems. Worldwide customer base ranged from Warner Brothers Studios in LA, The Mill in London to TV Globo in Brazil. My roles included:* System and application software development in C/C++ using the GNU toolchain including new feature development, debugging, maintenance, performance tuning, configuration management, monitoring and diagnostics* Design, implementation and integration of video output* Optimisation of OpenGL rendering and video output * Design and performance tuning of high performance 10GigE IP network fabric and integration with customer intranets.* Integration with a wide variety of 3rd party storage systems including multi petabyte StoreNext SANs, NetApp NAS and Isilon clustered filesystems. * Design and implementation of build systems for customised OS distributions, including kernel builds, configuration customisation, maintenance of kernel patches, device driver and filesystem optimisation and bug fixing.* Extensive field support of customers including remote system administration and close liaison with third party vendors.* Development of user and developer documentation, white papers and presentations at user groups and trade shows.Since leaving FilmLight I have continued to consult for them on an ad-hoc basis.

I developed C++ software components of custom hardware rendering engines to be embedded in Canon's ultra high speed printing systems. I contributed to aspects of the hardware design which were then patented.

Softway (subsequently Aurema, now Citrix) provided kernel-level resource management systems, professional consulting services and bespoke development. I worked on kernel and application level software for clients including SGI and Sun, provided professional consulting expertise to large corporate and government clients in network design, security and web application services and also worked on a custom Java VM implementation and various embedded projects.
