Together with my team I• built successfully an organization of >35 interdisciplinary professionals• managed all relevant market access requirements (AMNOG) incl. dossier development and price negotiations with G-BA / GKV-SV.• managed all legal & regulatory processes incl. a local quality system (QA), wholesaler dealer license (incl. EU distribution from Germany) & data protection requirements• built the commercial infrastructure incl. marketing and a sales team of 10 KAMs as well as a medical organization with a medical director and MSLs• established a communication / patient advocacy department, IT-services, organizational infrastructure (payroll, car leasing, pension plan etc.) As a member of the European Commercial Leadership Team (ECLT) I was able to support the EU organization with my tremendous experience to establish Intercept in Europe, to bring an organization to life and successfully launch a product in an orphan disease and establish it as gold standard (OCALIVA® in primary biliary cirrhosis). Financial results surpassed company targets by far in my region.

Set- and headed up the affiliatess from scratch to launch two new innovative antibiotics (Sivextro®, Zerbaxa®) into the gram-negative and gram-positive market. I • hired an excellent team of ca. 30 interdisciplinary professionals• managed the market acces process (AMNOG, G-BA) as well as all legal, regulatory, medical, distribution, quality, data protection etc. requirements to launch both antibiotics.• contributed well as a member of the EU commercial leadership team to the EU launch strategy and tactics.While still preparing for the launches, Cubist was acquired by Merck & Co and integrated into their business. The sales- and marketing teams were integrated into the Merck-business whereas all other employees in the EU affiliates were made redundant.

The Italian owner family asked me to move the Düsseldorf based affiliate to Munich. This included the hiring of a new team of >15 employees in Munich, the obtaining of a new wholesaler- as well as manufacturing-/import license from the Bavarian authorities – both very complex processes that I managed well with my ‚old’ and ‚new’ team. During the difficult transition to Munich I was able to keep people motivated and as a result the German affiliate surpassed company targets. I left Sigma-Tau due to the attractive opportunity to establish a US-biotech in the DACH region.

Following the successful launch GlaxoSmithKline acquired HGS. All EU employees were made redundant.

I headed up the Business Unit Vaccines with >20 vaccines, >400m Euro sales and a team of 230 employees. Member of the German GSK Management Team and the Global Operational Vaccines Team. In Germany execution of two vaccine-launches incl. Rotarix® (most successful German pharma launch in 2009). Re-launched Cervarix® for HPV and doubled market share within 12 months.

Following the excellent integration of the Sanofi-Thrombosis portfolio (Arixtra®, Fraxiparin®, Fraxodi®) into GSK Germany under my leadership, I was tasked to set- and head up the GSK European Thrombosis Center of Excellence in Paris with 15 interdisciplinary employees (7 nationalities). Successful re-organization of the European Thrombosis business and develepment of a new EU portfolio strategy. The mature portfolio exceeded budget expectation and grew from ca. 200m to ca. 300m Euros within 3 years. I was also a member of the GSK Corporate European Performance Team (EPT) that defined the EU product strategy across the GSK product portfolio.
