As an undergraduate at Trinity University, I participated in an Advanced Project entitled Water Quality in the Shenandoah Valley with the Keck Geology Consortium in which I developed many skills relevant to environmental quality assessment including field collection of water and soil samples, elemental analysis using various methodologies (including scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), ion chromatography (IC), and inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS)), and spatial and statistical analysis of geochemical data using Esri ArcGIS and R statistical programming language. Additionally, I learned to work effectively with a team of researchers and communicate findings through poster and oral presentations at Geological Society of America conferences. My water quality research has identified risk factors for drinking water contaminant exposure in the Shenandoah Valley, thus facilitating risk reduction for residents. My work culminated in the completion of an undergraduate honors thesis with the Trinity University Department of Geosciences (https://digitalcommons.trinity.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1024&context=geo_honors), which was then expanded into an article published in Environmental Geochemistry and Health in May 2024 (https://doi.org/10.1007/s10653-024-01987-4). Additionally, my completion of coursework in hydrogeology, geomorphology, geochemistry, and GIS/Remote Sensing have reinforced many of the concepts relevant to environmental quality assessment. Honor society affiliations include Alpha Lambda Delta, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Sigma Gamma Epsilon (for scholarship in the earth sciences, served as president of the Trinity University chapter during the 2021-2022 school year). As an avid musician, I participated in wind ensemble, jazz ensemble, and symphony orchestra at Trinity.As a Hydrologist I: Groundwater Monitoring Specialist at the Texas Water Development Board since September 2023, I've conducted field work throughout the state including taking static water level measurements from groundwater wells, measuring flow discharge from springs, collecting field parameter measurements and water samples for chemical analysis, and assisting with generating maps and hydrographs for short reports and analysis papers.
