Civil Enforcement Officer
Currentin this role, I have two core duties. Managament of traffic and parking and the enforcement of parking infringements. However this work primarily requires good people skills, initiative, independence.Day to day you need to deal with people. This can vary greatly, you can simply be a representative of the council, and so a font of knowledge or advice, often unrelated to the work. More frequently you need to deal with tense and angry individuals, and you need the skill and capacity to read people to know how to calm them and maintain discussion over alternatives.Initiative comes hand in hand with independence. You must plan your routes and learn your location to know where hotspots emerge, deal with regulars but also cover the area as best as is possible within an allotted time. This is all done independently and with reference to practice, experience and training. Initiative comes from learning how to best tackle often miles and miles on your own, and again provide applicable and useful coverage.
