Duies include breaking in 70+ yearlings. Pre training to race fitness.

Riding and assisting the trainer in a bespoke training and breeding yard on doorstep of the Curragh racecourse. Mares and foals, pasture and gallop management. Sales preparation.

Assistant Trainer to a private stable of 60 horses based on the King Abdulelah Abdulaziz Racecoure. Duties included all veterinary care of all horses based on an American training system with the permitted use of Lasix and Bute.

In full control of satellite yard consisting of the 20 annual yearling crop plus horses coming back into training. The yard is used as a breaking and pre-training yard. My duties also include taking charge of main yard of 50 horses in the Trainers absence.

I was in charge of morning preparation for one of the main yards which had 40 horses. This entailed preparing all horses for their morning work ensuring they went out on time and all their additional needs. I led up on numerous occasions at the races and also played a key role on big races days by saddling up and hosting owners before and after the races.

As part of my degree course I undertook 5 months’ work experience. My duties included working with the mares, weanlings and yearlings. I was involved with the weanling preparation for the Inglis Sales. I also spent time in the office everyday on stallion pedigree and sales statistics.

Worked as groom and work rider. Attended 3 Day Events. Looked after 7 horses in the yard. Schooled on a cross-country course. Was left in charge on numerous occasions.

I worked weekends and school holidays. I performed all general stud duties as part of the team. I attended over 50 foalings, getting hands on experience. I was heavily involved with the breaking in of the annual yearling crop. I attended the sales. Tractor driver during harvest. I also helped with the husbandry of the resident beef herd.
