• Viticulture Projects: Managed 2 viticulture trials (leaf removal impacts, yield variation impacts) in 2 separate vineyards; duties included assistance with experiment design, plot plan layouts, carrying out leaf removal and cluster thinning protocols, development of and managing berry sampling protocols (veraison and harvest), fruit zone PAR light measurements (utilizing Decagon AccuPAR Ceptometer), recording of harvest statistics (yield, cluster size/weight, etc.), managing subsequent crush and vinification operations for ~15 small lots (110 liters/lot), preparation and shipment of berry and wine samples to ETS Labs (St. Helena, CA) for phenolic analysis, statistical analysis of experimental data, comprehensive analysis of weather data for 2007 growing season. (Thesis and presentation available upon request)• Sensory Evaluation Project: Organized series of weekly sensory evaluation sessions with LIMA winemakers and other participants with the goal of identifying “typicity” in Long Island Merlot-based wines; initial training of panel members was done using aroma samples, followed by blind tasting using random selections of wines from Long Island and elsewhere; variations related to winery, vintage, region, and panel member were investigated; statistical analysis techniques included principal component analysis.
