Manager, Material Management
Current- Manage Metro Transit’s Material Management Department. The Material Management Department is responsible for the inventory management and inventory control of all of the parts supplies and commodities used by Metro Transit to maintain its fleet of revenue vehicles. We currently support about 1000 buses, 100 light rail vehicles, 27 locomotives and cab cars, soon to be over 40 miles of light rail system tracks, signals and power generation equipment. We also support the revenue collection repair department which is the department that maintains the fareboxes on buses and ticket vending machines on rail platforms. We also support the public facility maintenance department and other departments as needed such at Metro Transit Police Department and multiple transportation departments. - My staff is 55 people. Two assistant managers, two supervisors, two material planners, business systems analyst, instructional designer, administrative assistant and 45 stockkeepers. The two material planners plan for 18,000 SKUs spread out over 16 warehouses throughout the Twin Cities. When combining SKUs with locations it means they are managing about 80,000 SKU/warehouse combinations. - The 45 stockkeepers work 24 hours a day, five days a week. They handle all receiving, warehousing, issuing and outbound shipping requirements. Our standing inventory is over $64,000,000. In a normal year the stockkeepers perform over 605,000 inventory transactions with a dollar value of over $585,000,000. - Create and implement the strategic vision and plan for the Material Management Department focusing on value added growth in functions, personnel, equipment, transportation and vendor relations.- Establish, develop and execute a strategic vision using federal and state capital funding.- Manage and oversee the hiring, training, employee relations, contract adherence, contract negotiations and performance of union members.
