Duties: The analysis of Volatile Organic Compounds in soil and waters through the use of GCMS in headspace. Preparation of Quality Control Standards and Calibration Standards. Preventative maintenance on instruments and problem solving when they malfunction. Working to UKAS accredited standards with ISO 17025 certification and ALcontrols own Standards of Practice. Working to tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy of results.

Duties: Decision making based on evidence presented on a case by case basis. Constructing letters to customers informing them of decisions made on their cases. Where cases were upheld, completing calculations both quickly and accurately. Using a variety of different computer software systems, some of which M&S specific needed to be learned swiftly. Working to specific deadlines both quickly, accurately and as a key member of a close knit team.‘Buddying’ new employees to the department and assisting in their training.Achieving ‘Competency Level’ at first available opportunity.

Duties: Responsible for the collection and testing of daily samples, completion of all tasks in a safe manner, to enforce and follow SSEMS safety standards, Maintain housekeeping standards in the lab. Completion of all tests on a daily basis whilst minimising the use of consumables where possible and data entry. Creating an inventory of Laboratory equipment and a database to trigger when consumables were at a low level. Daily tests included, wet and dry sieving of samples, determining moisture content of solid samples, loss on ignition testing, particle size distribution using a Malvern mastersizer and the testing of waste water for reagent against standardised samples. Preparing samples of produce for clients to take away.Unfortunately made redundant due to unforeseen plant closure.

Duties: Dealing with customer enquiries, serving customers on the tills, replenishment of stock, handling of cash and general sales. The running of a sub-department for three months.
