I was a production expert at ArcelorMittal Saldanha Works for 22 years and was retrenched in 2020 due to the plant that closed down. I was part of the team that commissioned and successfully started the Corex facility. My primary focus was the casthouse and slag granulation plant, which included the day to day operations, faultfinding, training of experts, inventory management, shutdown planning and execution.I was responsible to increase the slag granulation plants availability from 80% to 92%. The incidents decreased on the casthouse while I was the responsible person. I was part of the team that planned and executed the installation of a new ladle pre-heater system.I attended Westlake technical college to do basic engineering skills training and also completed a N3. During my time at Saldanha I did various courses, mostly in supervision and safety. During the lockdown I completed an online course in Risk Management through the University of Stellenbosch and a Safety Management course through the University of Cape Town.
