Project Student Placement
The purpose of this project was to provide evidence-based recommendations to the Austin Hospital regarding the use of technology in treating cognitive dysfunction during the acute phase of stroke. A literature review was conducted to identify the evidence supporting the use of technology within a stroke population. Search results yielded 19 articles that evaluated various technologies that addressed cognitive processes including overall cognitive function, memory, attention, planning, problem solving, visual perception, language deficits and mood. Findings were used to formulate evidence-based recommendations for modernising the treatment of stroke using iPad based therapy at the Austin Hospital.

• Work autonomously as a secondary case manager, monitoring mental states by conducting mental state examinations, risk assessments and liaising with the multidisciplinary team. • Facilitate psychosocial rehabilitation based groups to enhance social skills, encourage community integration, promote health and wellbeing and develop occupational roles. • Identify goals and strengths of the client to provide collaborative, person-directed and individualised interventions that assist to increase capacity for living, working and socialising.• Develop, implement and evaluate a nutrition-based program over 4 weeks to encourage healthier lifestyle choices.• Conduct the Domestic and Community Skills Assessment and formulate interventions to improve occupational performance.
