I have been a law enforcement officer for the city of Baltimore, Maryland, for the last 28 years. I spent about 11 of those years working as a patrol officer, answering a variety of calls for service; from disorderly conduct to domestic violence calls; from shootings and homicides to active shooter calls. During my time in patrol I also acted as a field training officer, assisting in the training of police officers who were undergoing training in the police academy. For two years, from 1996 to 1998, I worked as a detective investigating non-fatal shootings. For the past 14+ years I have been assigned to the department's Citywide Robbery Unit. For the first 10 of those years our unit focused solely on commercial business robberies. During that time, I also attend the position of Federal Task Force Officer, working with the FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force. The main benefit of being a part of the federal task force was to enable detectives in our unit to prosecute offenders federally, instead of only at the state level. The last two years, our unit has expanded to include the investigation of street robberies and carjackings.
