I entered active duty in 1984 and was trained to work on SH-3 Sea King helicopters as a jet engine mechanic assigned to HS-11 at NAS JAX and deployed with Air Wing One onboard the USS America (CV-66). In 1988, I attended NACCS in Pensacola, FL and took orders to VP-31 at Moffett Field, San Jose, CA for flight engineer school. I was then attached to VP-48 from 1989 through early 1991 where I deployed to Adak, AK flying ASW missions throughout the western Pacific (Japan, Korea, Philippines), In 1991, I accepted orders to VP-6, and ultimately VP-9 at Barbers, HI where I deployed throughout the Pacific and SW Asian theater of operations. In 1994, I accepted orders to VP-30 at NAS JAX where I served as a fleet replacement instructor flight engineer and fleet NATOPS evaluator. In 1997, I transitioned to the Navy Reserves assigned to VP-62 at NAS JAX where I continued to fly world-wide maritime patrol missions. I retired as a CPO in 2006.
