As an intern, I supported all engineering teams with various projects to deal with various industries like aerospace, defense, power generation, semiconductor and nuclear. Some notable projects I performed was a finite element analysis on a structure to find the load capacity as well as to make modifications to strengthen weak points. Also, I assisted in inspecting non-conformances on RS-25 rocket nozzles and helped develop root causes to mitigate future risks. I developed various fixtures to help in a wide range of uses including part handling, inspection, and protection.

I worked part time during the school year assisting in the integration of a production line for Lucid Motors. Also I helped with improve 5S principles on the lines and modified parts to adhere closer to poke-yoke principles. Some main projects I was tasked with was designing a final inspection assembly to modify current machines to fit Lucid Motors parts. Also I modified an inspection fixture to detect shipping positions of multiple variations of columns with multiple light and inductive sensors.

I was part of a team that designed, built, and tested prototypes for various companies whose operations ranged from material packaging to brick making. Design work was completed with Solidworks, I then spent extensive time on both manual and CNC mills and lathes to produce prototypes for testing. During testing, both prototypes achieved what they were designed to do. The prototype for the material packaging company reduced breakages and reduced the product loading time, while brick companies’ prototype was stronger and more reliable than the current design. I regularly scheduled internal team meetings to track our progress and attended client meetings to provide status updates to ensure we were meeting our client’s goals and expectations. I assisted in the machine shop with identifying better ways to utilize the programming on the CNC machines and improved safety and work flow by reorganizing parts of the shop.

Using Solidworks, I was responsible for designing 3D models and drawings of parts for the production lines that produced steering columns for companies like Tesla, Honda, and Volvo. I was also tasked with creating fixtures used to verify tolerances for individual components and finished steering columns using a coordinate measuring machine. I was chosen to lead various projects including being tasked to find a solution to redesign the factory floors' dunnage cart locking systems. I also designed and tested parts for a grub screw vacuum feeding system and helped workout various physical issues during the implementation. Lastly, I took multiple courses through Thyssenkrupp that educated me on geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and multiple vision systems like Baumer and Cognex cameras.

I was trained on the basic operations and coding of CNC mills and lathes. Also, I was rotated through different areas of the company like quality, maintenance, and production. In quality, I calibrated measuring devices and learned about high precision processes like coordinate measuring machines and profile projectors. I changed the oil and cleaned CNC machines with maintenance and I produced parts with production for large companies like Caterpillar. At the end of my internship, I was chosen to shadow a professional machinist and receive personal training that culminated in being put in charge of a multi-axis mill to produce parts for an aerospace company.
