Utilizing experience from 18 years as a crane operator and health and safety leader in the Canadian energy industry, I’ve become increasingly aware of how the lifestyle of the industrial trades has affected my mental health. After being diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, I’ve been able to utilize my unique perspective to encourage other men to speak up about their mental health. As featured on Buzzfeed, as a Friend of Bell Let’s Talk, and on the CBC documentary “Digging in the Dirt” I’m always open to opportunities to share my message that it’s ok to talk about mental health. My goal is to normalize the conversation in what we view as traditionally masculine industries such as oil and gas, forestry, mining, agriculture, etc. As well, I’m passionate to reach the grass roots levels, such as schools and sports teams, and encourage a healthy outlook on mental health awareness and empower tomorrow’s generations to embrace discussing their mental health. Remember: You’re Not Alone, You’re Loved, and You Matter.
