Survival Equipment FitterRAF Survival Equipment Fitter in a very busy Tornado GR4 Aircrew Equipment Assemblies Workshop. The primary function of the workshop was to provide routine servicing, out of phase servicing, modification and rectification of Aircrew Equipment Assemblies (AEA) to a large squadron. These assemblies comprised of helmets, oxygen systems, life preservers, pyrotechnics, immersion suits, emergency locator beacon and anti-g-systems. The testing and maintenance of night vision goggles and automatic life preserver inflation units.The role also required regular deployment to other areas of the UK as well as overseas.In addition to the day to day maintenance was also responsible for the correct fitting and integration of safety equipment to both aircrew and passengers along with the associated safety briefings. Other duties included the managing of maintenance databases and the coordination and control of maintenance documentation and traceability records. Assisted in conducting post ejection liferaft survival drills in swimming pool and open water environments.
