    Moving onto a boat in the Santa Barbara harbor at age 2, raised riding waves and enjoying the freedom of the oceanic lifestyle set the stage for not only lifelong passion, but also fitness and fun. What started as the dream of riding waves for a living and traveling the world as a professional surfer evolved into Surf Happens a full service surfing school. Founded in 2000 in the local waters of Santa Barbara California, Surf Happens offers beginning to elite surf coaching, private parties and group events, corporate team building, after school programs, all womens programs, and community surfing contests such as the Rincon Classic.We have had the pleasure of working with generations of local youth and over 12,000 aspiring surfers from around the globe. The goal from the beginning was to create a teaching system similar to a martial art with level and stages of evolution where the students had the opportunity to later become teachers. Our staff is now almost entirely comprised of alumni including Demi Boelsterli, Kilian Garland, Matt Maheri, Glennie Rogers, and more. The Rincon Classic is the oldest and most revered contest in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties and has been administered by Surf Happens since 2001. Our goal is to keep with the original ideals of the contest as a locals only event while bringing a modern approach to the fabled point break. Now featuring industry headlining sponsors such as Channel Islands Surfboards and Hurley among many others, the event has all the amenities of a large professional event including live scoring, commentating, ASP judging panel, scaffold and much more. The Classic now attracts thousands of spectators and is the ultimate stage to prove ones skills.World famous top pros who call our area home compete each year alongside generations of local surfers including; Tom Curren, Bobby Martinez, Dane Reynolds, Conner Coffin, Parker Coffin, Chris Brown, Lakey Peterson, Demi Boelsterli, Kilian Garland and many others.
