Texas Booksellers Association & 12Th Street Books
Northcross Mall
Event Manager for the annual Austin Book, Paper & Photo Show (January 2015 and 2016). Responsibilities include obtaining contracts and payment, arranging radio and print advertising, emceeing the show, serving as a point of contact and troubleshooter for 50 vendors. I also work occasional weekends for 12th Street books, which sells rare, scholarly, and antiquarian books. Work closely with owner Luke Bilberry, President of the Texas Booksellers Association, learning the details of the trade, the history of printing, etc. Accomplishments Oversaw a modest advertising budget of $3,000. Boosted attendance by 25% from previous shows. All compliments, no complaints reported from vendors. The Texas Booksellers Association, after considering my proposal, unanimously selected me to be their event manager for 2016, based on my first job performance for the 2015 show. Skills Used Ability to assist multiple vendors and trouble shoot problems as they come up during the day. Booksellers can be eccentric and particular about their table set-up requirements, requiring patience and exceptional customer service skills.
