Whilst maintaining my previous roles responsibilities; I am also responsible for the coordination and management of the entire Engine and Component Test team within the Test and Validation Department. I am required to ensure adequate resources are available for our test programs to meet the demands of the R&D program, that test campaigns are completed to schedule and to the agreed budgets.

I am responsible for the planning and running of our gas turbine development tests programs, which involves both full engine and engine component testing this testing requires me to be able to quickly react and compensate for unusual behaviour not previously experienced with the engine and maintain safe operation of the facility and equipment. Within my role I am responsible for the specification, installation, upgrade, maintenance, commissioning and safe operation of the high pressure test facility and exotic gas fuel mixing facility, in compliance with numerous internal code of practice and external legislation. I am required to organise and supervise the build and strip activities on numerous research gas turbine engines simultaneously, design tests, advising others on the most appropriate test methods and liaising with other engineering departments were required. Estimating and advising resource and material costs on these development projects is a key activity in my job. I am responsible for identifying capital budget requirements for upgrades and modifications to our test facility and for monitoring and controlling spend on existing capital projects. I am responsible for a number of technicians and engineers, whom I am required to provide professional guidance and recommend career development goals.

I was involved in the specification, selection and supersession of components and instrumentation on our installed fleet’s Fuel Systems, Lub Oil Systems, Steam/Water Injection and DLE systems, sometimes with tight deadlines due to engines having broken down and requiring immediate rectification. I was the lead Fluids Engineer on a number of projects required to specify replacement and new components and answering technical questions from other engineering disciplines and customers.
