For 19 years, I've taught English Language Arts to grades 6-12 across Missouri, California, and Iowa. During this time, I focused on actively engaging a diverse range of learners through explicit, interactive instruction. I tailored my approach to meet each student at their current skill level, implementing differentiation strategies to facilitate their growth. Collaborating extensively with Special Education teachers, I played a key role in modifying and seamlessly integrating accommodations for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Additionally, I contributed to building leadership teams, guiding staff learning and professional development.Over the past 8 years, I've brought these experiences to my role as a Secondary Literacy Consultant at Grant Wood Area Education Agency. Serving 11 districts and 32 buildings, I assist administrators, instructional coaches, and teachers in creating enriching learning environments in both instruction and assessment.In the Fall of 2024, I will be re-entering the classroom as a Language Arts Teacher at Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids.Throughout my 26-year career in education, I've refined my servant leadership skills to effectively facilitate and support educational leaders in navigating federal and state frameworks such as the components of ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act), MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support), and IDEA-DA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act - Differentiated Accountability).Ultimately, I firmly believe in the potential of every individual to learn, and I consider the pursuit of education to be one of the noblest endeavors in unlocking that potential.
