Post-Graduation I was given the unique opportunity to work an internship with Environment Southland, working within theEnvironmental Data department. This was great exposure to telemetry measurement of water and soil assets, data analysis andCollaboration. Working within a department dedicated to this field really aided my skills and further grew my passion andexcitement for the industry• Environmental Monitoring – Making and importing low flow gauging instruments, performing analysis on river andrainfall, performing monthly water quality assessments across five sites in the Waituna catchment, Collection of watersamples, ensuring compliance to ISO9001:2008 and NEMS standards, contributing to the long term SOE (state ofenvironment) monitoring programme, monitoring sites including rainfall, groundwater, flow and soil moisture.• Data analysis and management- . Use of ArcGIS for producing field maps, Use of Hilltop for managing flow data,Creating and digitizing maps in Inkscape, Collaborating data and analysis results, contributing data used towards flowcharts and reporting of findings. Delivery of Data to management and senior members of staff. Entry of comprehensivedata into various databases, Management of database information, ensuring accuracy and completion of information.• Team Involvement- Working as an affective and involved team member, following guidance of senior members ofstaff, showing imitative and enthusiasm, performing adhoc tasks to ensure effective use of time for senior staffmembers.
