I am a research botanist. My work spans spatial and temporal scales to address fundamental questions in three main areas: 1) how plant anatomical traits promote/constrain plant functions, 2) how function and stress tolerance determines where a plant can and cannot live, and 3) the ecological and evolutionary processes that generate and maintain physiological diversity. To conduct my work across these and other areas, I integrate anatomical, physiological, ecological, and evolutionary approaches including microscopy and SEM, gas-exchange and hydraulics, complex statistical modelling, and phylogenetic comparative methods.
