After years of searching for my true calling in life, it took a little help from the Independent Cinema Office and their wonderful FEDS trainee scheme to give me the opportunity to work in a field that is closest to my heart. Over the 8 months of my trainee scheme, not only did I meet some amazing people and learn various important skills in relation to Film Exhibition, I also realised that my passion and abilities are stronger than I ever could have imagined.Initially working as Programme Assistant at the Glasgow Film Theatre, I secured the role of Programme Coordinator for the Glasgow Film Festival. Not only has this been and invaluable learning experience, it has completely changed the way I approach my work. This is partly due to the wonderful people I have worked with and I have found that interacting with others and bouncing ideas around is so important. Festival work is fast paced and incredibly varied however it is exhilarating and the joy I have felt from delivering a programme that has been so accepted by so many peers and the GFT audience is the most rewarding work I have ever done.I genuinely have not been happier in my working life than I have over the past year and I truly know now that I belong.I am filled with enthusiasm and eager to deliver new and interesting ideas to a wide audience. Films bring people together and I hope to contribute to that in any way I can.
