In January 2018, I left the federal government and took a faculty position at UH so I can return to research and try my hand at teaching. I have once again started conducting research on the role of the ocean in the global carbon cycle and the impact of rising CO2 levels on ocean chemistry (ocean acidification). In July 2020, I was selected as the SOEST Associate Dean for Research, splitting my time between my renewed research/teaching interests and administrative responsibilities. In February 2022, I was asked to step in as the interim Vice Provost for Research and Scholarship for the Mānoa campus. I will maintain my research programs and continue to support my students and postdocs, but I will step away from my teaching and associate dean responsibilities for now.
