About Christopher Langdon

I am a museum professional (learning and events management) and currently a freelance educator and historian based in Essex. Formerly researcher, educator, lecturer and events officer at Southend Museums, with extensive knowledge on local history. I specialise in the areas history between 1914 and 1945, however cover local history to the Palaeolithic. I am highly experienced in event planning and management, as well as creating and delivering learning content for all ages and ability levels. I read History with the Open University, following studies at UWE Bristol.Personal interests include early modern European history from the Reformation to the twentieth century, and modern history from the Great War to the end of the Cold War. Themes include state formation, beliefs and ideologies, culture and society, and economics.

    I conceptualize, plan, and implement a yearlong programme of events across four museum branches for all ages and abilities. These consist of holiday/half-term holiday events, special events, and events in support of the Museum’s exhibition programme. They cater for all ages and abilities, and can cover general themes to more specific and catered events and tours.Additionally, I organise, book, process, and deliver a curriculum and extra curriculum programme of educational sessions for KS1-KS4 covering local history, archaeology and art. I also act as a guest lecturer on local history for groups that meet outside Museum branches.Finally, I research, interpret, and archive the town’s WWI and WWII roll’s of honour. This is alongside a four year long project to research the towns WWI heritage and undertake opportunities to share that story. I have worked alongside several HLF projects including Remember Us?, Gallipoli100, and Never Forget. Over the centenary project I have educated over 10,000 local people through formal education sessions, events, HLF projects and guest lectures.I am also a member of the Cultural Events Officers Committee which conceptualise, plan and implement Borough-wide festivals, carnivals, commemorative events and anniversary events.
