Growing up in Ventura it was the unique ecological landscape that drove me to continue my educational pursuit for a lifelong career studying environmental science. Within the Redwoods Forest region I was able to solidify my foundation in another vastly biological diverse region completing my Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science and Management with a focus in Geospatial Science at Humboldt State University in Arcata, CA. where I worked underneath Buddhika Madaruparrama analyzing cora reefs in the South Chinese Sea. The exciting outdoor classes from HSU gave me firsthand experience with intensive outdoor field work as a naturalist identifying common plant types for both native and nonnative species. The Environmental Science Program has also given me the background in knowing the specific standards for policy within NEPA and CEQA procedures. Upper division courses equipped me in being able learn how to examine and survey physical landscapes from outdoor field equipment with total stations to handheld remote GPS devices for mobile mapping purposes. From my research studies to actively engaging in course work it’s where I strongly believe with the use of observable data that can lead towards beneficial changes in policy for the protection of the environment.
