Field and site support Engineer

Supporting Scottish Widows during their Exchange Migration. Main duties are to provide support for any issues that may have arisen during migration. Tools used ESM, RDP and AD

Support for two sites Edinburgh and Aberdeen my main duties were to provide hardware and software support. Software included Microsoft 2008 Server, SQL server, VMWare and SharePoint. Hardware ranged from AIO multifunction printers, desktop, laptops and attached peripherals. Also utilised SCOM and SCCM. Implemented DFS across four servers. Also dealt with BES in a small role. Whilst in this role I installed and configured Forefront for the two sites and also dealt with issues regarding Cisco equipment.

Providing second line support for a bespoke Practice Management System for Veterinary Surgeons throughout the UK. Duties include, querying databases using Access, Hardware and Software support for clients, typically W2K3 and W2K8 servers and Terminal Services clients, printers, routers, workstations. Main duties, resolve issues not completed via first line support; typically accounting issues and OS, tracing faults using SQL queries and creating help and support documents for internal staff and external clients Member of a working committee to improve communications between the Development and Support teams and also a committee to look at improving support standards; looking at builds, new OS platforms and new technologies. Liaising with the development team on the impact of new technologies / processes on the support team. Also configured routers and firewalls.

This role was to cover and maintain the computers systems held in retail environments such as, Thomas Cook, Ladbrokes, Gala, Coral and Glasgow City Council.

Contracting for Hilton Group, this role encompassed the changeover of the legacy hotel system to a new one, encompassing the entire hotel IT, Bar, Food Service, Television systems, Minibar, Restaurant, Reception and Telephone Systems were integrated and fully working With the new systems and servers. My role along with a group of typically five others was to install all new IT hardware, upgrade some hardware, install and configure Windows Server 2003 and the Active Directory schema, install all new pcs and printers and ensure that all legacy systems are communicating serially with the new servers, generally meaning complete recabling.

Contracting for the FDPCT, my remit was to provide support for Falkirk and Stirling Hospital maintaining programs like, Torex, Gpass, Cdss, Sapphire, Compas, Labs, Topas and all supported add-ins. Provide network services and support the running of the networks, Server maintenance and break/fix, as well as workstations and all peripherals. Microsoft NT, 2000, XP, Server 200 and Server 2003/Small Business Server 2000/2003.

Contracting for the LPCT, my remit is to provide support for all of the Doctors Surgeries in Midlothian; maintaining programs like, Torex, Gpass, Cdss, and all supported add-ins. Provide network services and support the running of the networks, Server maintenance and break/fix, as well as workstations and all peripherals (Printers, Plotters, Monitors, Etc). Some SQL exposure, mainly dealing with queries and dealing with Microsoft NT, 2000, XP, Server 200 and Server 2003/Small Business Server 2000/2003. Maintained a user base of 500 – 600 users.

Contracting for HP, working on the rollout of Glasgow City Councils new server’s desktops and laptops. Duties include liaising with GCC and their engineers, removal of old hardware, configuring local and network printers, setting up new machines on intra/internet using Novell and TCP/IP, configuring Outlook for one/multiple users via an Exchange Server, asset recovery. Gained HP Desktop Engineer accreditation whilst in this role.

Covering the East of Scotland, my role entails providing support for numerous business clients such as major banks and building societies. This requires that a high level of professionalism be maintained. I gained an in-depth knowledge of a range of hardware and software; Hewlett Packard, Siemens, Kyocera, Lexmark, Epson and Oki printers (dot-matrix, thermal, impact and laser); all Windows operating systems up to Windows XP Professional; Epson and Symbol Scanners (replacing and re-configuring); Networking (Lans, Wans, NICs and routers, cabling); re-imaging workstations and servers (IBM and COMPAQ), hardware maintenance and preventative measures.
