As a Group leader / lead piping engineer for MegChem, I am leading 7 engineers in the head office of MegChem. Ensuring that the team is technically strong, sensitive to client needs, profitable and maintaining a healthy work environment. Developing assistant engineers into engineers and developing the overall strength of the piping engineering group.I specialize in the design of piping systems, using my talents and skills to assist multiple clients in South Africa and abroad, to help ensure safe operation of the various plants. Typical clients are refineries, power stations, paper and pulp industry, water and sanitation including steel and metal foundries.I am part of the team which is responsible for growing the business in KZN, South Africa. The client base has expanded and I have developed new methods for working remotely from head office, while still ensuring schedule and financial targets are met.

Working with experienced engineers from all disciplines.I was exposed to more complex problems where I developed a stronger understanding of the design codes used, such as ASME B31.3 and EN 13480. My technical skills grew with this position as well as my ability to manage people.Working closely with the drafting department to ensure the solution to the problem is detailed correctly on engineering drawings for fabrication.

As an assistant piping engineer at MegChem I was tasked with the application of the knowledge learnt from university, to practical problems. My development included the understanding of the various health and safety standards, design codes and calculation tools. Working with clients, understanding their needs, with regards to safety, environmental and financial.Performing site work with measurements to understand what all the components in the piping system are.I had the opportunity to work on contract to Sasol for a year as a plant support engineer. With this experience I achieved a better understanding of how industrial plants operate and how management of change is handled. I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time on site understanding the equipment and working closely with plant technicians. This taught me as well how construction, inspections and commissioning of systems is done safely.
