Product Manager Non-Standard Ammunition
Current•Directs 115 professional and technical employees (Department of Defense civilians and defense contractors); responsible for all program management activities and contract processes that support the Army Acquisition Executive’s policy of providing superior non standard ammunition (NSA) and non-standard mortar weapon systems (NS MWS) to the armed forces of Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Philippines, Chad, Uganda, Libya, other foreign militaries, and to US training, survivability, and exploitation sites. •Annually supervises the contract actions, production and lifecycle management of $100M - $210M NSA/NS MWS, which are generally new production, “Soviet/Eastern Bloc” items such as: AK rifle and PKM machine gun rounds, rocket propelled grenades, anti-tank missiles, 57mm attack helicopter rockets, 73mm recoilless rifle ammunition, D30 howitzer and T-series tank rounds, BM-21 rockets, and 82mm mortar weapon systems. •Coordinates directly with: Joint and Coalition senior staff to define their NSA/NS MWS requirements, secure correct appropriations, and develop foreign military sales (FMS) strategies; Army Contracting Commands and defense firms to solicit, evaluate proposals, and award purchase orders; and with US departments and foreign governments to synchronize item delivery to peaceful and hostile locations.•Overall ensures through detailed program management, contracting and test activities that the NSA/NS MWS items supplied give our allies and Soldiers overmatch capabilities against insurgent elements, which allows the US to reduce its presence in these contested areas. Additionally, these weapon systems are critical in developing superior US detection capabilities and defensive measures for US vehicles, anti-missile systems and soldier protective ensemble (body armor, helmets, and blast resistant eyewear), which increases the US Army’s combat power and our service members’ survivability rate.
