In my PhD research I used machine learning in space weather modelling. I specifically worked on ionosphere irregularities.I was also part of spacecraft projects where I was involved in (and learned to):1. Carrying out experiments using solar array simulators and Helmholtz cage to create models for attitude determination2. S/C testing including thermal vacuum chamber tests and vibration tests per NASA/ESA/ISRO standards3. Spacecraft assembly including solar cell integration

I represented Malawi at the Council whose aims include: creation of a global network of university students and young professionals that contributes meaningfully to the space industry; and, connecting the young space enthusiasts with more seasoned space professionals, thus facilitating experience and knowledge transfer.We, with my co-NPoC and a local team, organized national events (e..g. telescope taken to secondary schools, science fair presentations) aimed at increasing local awareness and understanding of the usefulness of space sciences, space engineering and space applications.

Designing a 50kW crossflow water turbine for electricity generation

Research on how the informal manufacturing sector operates in Dharavi, Mumbai. The questions I answered:1. How do artisans work with other stakeholders across the value-chain?--There's an element of mutual trust. As brokers, whenever we visited the artisans there was a coded exchange of, "I trust you're not ripping me off." There were of course some formal agreements, but it is much more sticking to the human contract than to the business contract that seemed to matter the most.2. What role does the internet play? Through a platform like DharaviMarket.com, a lot of artisans are able to sell to the international community without themselves having to manage or know the nitty-gritty of running an online marketplace. This allowed them to worry less about how to sell, and instead focus on what they are good at.3. What are potential areas for improvement? I noticed a lack of a coherent brand coming out of Dharavi. While working as individuals, with individual (family) brands is laudable (the idea of such informal "firms" is what attracted me there!), I think it would be even more lucrative to ship out an international high-end brand. The products are of very good quality, but lack the marketing/branding thrust for them to make more than a dent on the global stage.
