Senior Engineer - Electrical And Controls

Omaha, Nebraska

Senior Engineer, Electrical and Controls, at a large natural gas interstate transmission pipeline corporation. The pipeline is the largest in the US by system mileage, which consists of over 15,000 miles of pipeline from Texas to Minnesota. The pipeline network has over 50 compressor stations, hundreds of TBS (Town Border Stations) sites, dozens of pipeline interconnects, three underground gas storage well fields with associated gas treatment facilities, and two LNG (liquefied natural gas) storage facilities. All of these remote facilities are centrally monitored and coordinated with a SCADA system at Gas Control in Omaha, Nebraska. As a senior engineer, I split my time between the office and field. While in the office, I directed design personnel, estimated projects, issued bid and construction drawings, and purchased materials and services, I developed P&ID's, functional requirement documents, control network architecture drawings, SCADA schematics, and various other control documents. While at the job site, I directed and coordinated electrical contractors, electrical inspectors, control integrators and NNG field personnel. I also performed hands on commissioning and startup activities. I completed new installations and retrofits of control systems, fire and gas NFPA 72 safety systems, and electrical distribution infrastructure. Principle Engineer - Electrical And Controls

Omaha, Nebraska

Principal Engineer for Electrical and Control systems in a food manufacturing corporation producing a variety of branded packaged consumer products: Reddi Wip, Slim Jims, Hunts Ketchup, and many others. Manage the electrical and control portion of capital projects.Successfully designed, installed and commissioned the controls integration of a new aseptic mix-proof valve manifold skid at the Reddi Wip dairy plant. The new valve manifold decreased CIP/SIP time requirements at a production constrained, high value, facility. The mix proof valve manifold is the main interface between the batch kitchen, continuous packaging, and CIP/SIP systems. The mix proof valve manifold allowed for the safe cleaning of half the kitchen while the other half of the kitchen continued to feed packaging. As a team member of ConAgra management along with third party engineering partners, designed, estimated, and built a new snack production facility. This production facility included new process and packaging capabilities. Packaging equipment used state of the art robotic systems for both case packing and palletizing.

Managed the AEI portion of capital projects.Installed and commissioned a new Maltitol production facility. This plant was the first sweeteners hydrogenation facility for Cargill in North America. Worked with a multi-discipline engineering team to insure the safe operation of this PSM covered process. This facility is a fully automated batch process with many different unit operations including: hydrogenation reactor, catalyst filters, demineralizers, chromato column, evaporators, and spent nickel catalyst recovery.Responsible for the implementation of production systems to supply utilities and raw materials for an over-the-fence customer. This effort included installation and integration of hardware and software to communicate with the customer’s separate control systems while adhering to IP security concerns with both Cargill and the customer. Created the necessary accounting requirements for custody transfer bill of materials.Constructed four new electric boilers, a technology new to Cargill. These boilers are the largest ever manufactured by the boiler vendor and are each rated for 115 klbs/hr of steam at an electrical usage rate of 33 MW. The electric boilers are fully automated and integrated into the existing steam plant. During the engineering phase, co-wrote the process narrative detailing boiler operation, control sequences, interlocks, and interaction with existing gas boilers.
