My duties include:-Performing daily water chemistry monitoring of parameters for systems throughout our facility.-Maintaining relations with vendors and ordering any chemical supply that is related while keeping suppliers competitive.-Minimizing the cost/usage of expensive chemicals.-Maximizing the usage of data collection from auto/manual monitoring databases.-Daily maintenance of chemical loading and balancing to achieve the best water quality possible for growth at the lowest cost.-Perform scientific quantification to advise/optimize the best water quality for optimal fish growth.-Supervise/advise personal on how to maintain, operate, take charge, and think outside the box on improvements of existing systems through personal one on one training. Topics that I cover includes teaching new personal to observe their systems with scrutiny and what to look for through personal analysis, quantitative performance evaluations, monitoring trends within a controllable environment, and data trends from the past.-Advise/recommend monitoring systems updates to fine tune system balances.-Program/update existing monitoring alarm/data collection systems.

My main responsibilities include the following:-Maintaining three systems of tanks that currently hold 46,000-50,000 fish in 147,000-156,000 gallon systems including filtration systems.-Perform daily husbandry duties of the systems, which include feeding over 500 - 900 kg daily and removing the low natural moralities due to aggressive fish behavior.-Dive and perform system maintenance on company wide systems. (15 minutes to 7 hours depending on circumstances)-Perform testing of new methods of improving system capabilities in order to yield better quality conditions of any given system in operation-Update and maintain a monitoring system that tracks multiple critical points of data for every system (aka HMI programing and soon PLC) in the building that houses between 800,000 to 1.2 million fish depending on stocking densities and time of year.

-Animal Husbandry-Water chemistry tests (pH, Alkalinity, Carbon Dioxide, Gas Saturation, Copper, Bromine, Oxygen)-Diagnosed fish health issues and administered proper treatments.-Design of systems for gas injection.-Improved existing system flows, gas injection, bio-filtration-Transferred fish from system to system-Setup Tank harvests-Scuba dived to perform underwater system maintenance-Research (system design aspects, fish health)-Built a Microcounter PC capable of counting fish as small as 0.1 grams and as large at 30 grams.-Designed and ran test on different parts of fish culture system to identify inefficiencies.

Collect data on fisheries economics, biological parameters of kept and discarded catch, gear characteristics and fishing performance, takes of protected species, monitoring of catch in special access areas.Collect otoliths, fish scales, and other samples from fish and protected species for the Northeast Fisheries Sampling Branch of NEFOP.Perform data collection tasks in compliance with state and federal fishing regulations.Performed necropsies on seal, dolphins, whales, and sharks.Liaison between fishermen and the Northeast Regional Fisheries Observer ProgramPerformed water quality testing using a YSI monitoring tool at a desalination plant.

Assessed data and determined the relationship of Blue Fin Tuna growth rates. Developed hands-on techniques preparing samples of Blue Fin Tuna for growth rate sampling. This analysis technique is currently being used to determine why Blue Fin Tuna are becoming smaller in size.Worked on Herring dietary study and growth rate effects to determine if there was a link to Blue Fin Tuna sizes.

Designed and operate aquaculture tank systems.Designed and built an aquaculture tank system in order to sustain delicate larval and juvenile Rainbow Smelt stages of life.Determined best growth methods for raising Rainbow Smelt. Sampled smelt and also designed a feeding method and tank system for raising larvae.
