About Christopher Massey

Christopher Massey is a highly motivated leader with a knack for manufacturing and seeing ideas come to fruition. Chris grew up in the outskirts of Philadelphia in a small town called Eddystone. With a general lack of resources in his childhood, Chris found himself curious how items were made and manufactured. This curiosity led him to pursuing and receiving his associate's degree in Specialized Technology where he focused on Machine Tool Technology at the Williamson College of the Trades (the greatest trade school in the United States). Two days after graduation in 2014, Chris relocated to the Baltimore area to begin his career as an NC Programmer/ Tool Designer at Middle River Aircraft Systems (MRAS), formerly a GE Aviation subsidiary. In this role, his focuses were on tooling needs for 10+ commercial aircrafts, while also supporting production NC programs when necessary. Here is where Chris’ foundation in CATIA V5 and manufacturing engineering began. In 2016, Chris was offered a unique position as a Manufacturing Process Engineer at a brand-new GE Aviation facility in Auburn Alabama. In this role, Chris utilized his machining and design background to contribute to the startup of new production lines for manufacturing turbine center frame components. Anything from new machine installs to designing, programming and making prototypes to implement and improve processes. After about a year in Alabama, Chris headed back to MRAS where he would combine all of his experiences together and fulfill the role as a Manufacturing Specialist. This position allowed Chris to focus on all of his prior responsibilities under one roof, covering all programs on-site. In August of 2018, Chris started at BOEING, located in Ridley Park, PA. Since then, Chris has held a few positions such as Tooling Integration Analyst, Tooling Manager, Manufacturing Operations Analyst in the MR&D organization and Manufacturing Operations Manager. Chris rejoined a team at GE Aerospace in March of 2023 as a Lead Manufacturing Engineer focusing on development work for the aerospace and hypersonic industries.Outside of work, Chris spends his time working on his vehicles and homestead alongside his wife as well as co-pilots Hazel & Rosie, two rescue dogs! He started laying the foundation for a small business in the past few years utilizing in-house capabilities such as CNC plasma cutting, 3D printing, laser engraving and CAD to design and manufacture products for businesses and the everyday consumer!Keep Smiling!

My responsibilities as a Tool Engineer with BELCAN engineering give me the freedom to do much more than the title states. As a Tool Engineer, I am exposed to all aspects of the manufacturing plant where I am located, from creating sketches to cutting precision parts that fly on planes. My background is in precision machining, mostly metals. In the past, this industry has exposed me to the world of composite. This gives me the ability to not only design the necessary tools needed to complete a task or project but also program the part designed on multi-axis machines throughout our plant. My responsibilities are very in depth. Some designs may start as a sketch on a piece of scrap paper and end up being very intricate parts that are used for critical processes in the plant or even loading flying components onto a plane. All while staying diligent on proper documentation through the entire process. My job is not complete until my team and I create conforming parts that do not jeopardize anyone’s safety. Below are some key points of my position;• Aviation Tool Design• NC Programming• Drafting from models or creating 2D drawings• Modeling• Catia V4; Legacy programs, Catia V5 New Products as well as Legacy support• Precision machining on metals and composites• Setup for All Machines, 3 and multi-axis• Composite Layup• Detailed documentation of all steps throughout processes • Union shop support• Safety precautions
