As a System/Network Engineer, Mr. Mauro works on a team that provides direct support services to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Information & Technology (OI&T), Enterprise Systems Engineering (ESE). Mr. Mauro provides high-level engineering, testing and planning support to mission critical application deployments across the VA enterprise. This support insures the deployed infrastructure and processes are consistent with the expected business volumes, response time requirements and adheres to VA guidelines and best practices. The engineering efforts focus on capacity planning and capacity projections, application support and development in conjunction with the business line, the assessment of components to meet anticipated workload volumes, the development and implementation of any required remediation, the establishment of best practices in capacity, testing, workload management, and the development and implementation of skills transfer and training plans designed to facilitate the adoption of best practices. Efforts specifically include support to the deployment and operation of standard monitoring and performance assessment software, the analysis of results generated by such software and providing planning services regarding enterprise infrastructure, architecture, implementation planning and design.

Mr. Mauro is currently supporting the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) Military Health Systems (MHS) as a Systems Analyst. Mr. Mauro administers the IBM Rational System Architect (SA) instance consisting of 50 users and over 80 encyclopedias. Included in this assignment is the addition and deletion of users, creation and archiving of encyclopedias as well as the modification of the usrprops.txt file to customize the interface to suit the customers needs. Weekly tasks include reporting on the usage of SA by producing ad-hoc and canned reports as well as assigning and managing user rights. Assists in the DIACAP risk assesment prior to any product upgrade. Assisted in the client upgrade from SA11.0 to SA11.3, including the upgrade of over 80 encyclopedias.

As a System Engineer, provided direct support to the Defense Information System Network (DISN) Support Services (NS72) branch. During this assignment Mr. Mauro designed, implemented and tested the NS7 global website as well as multiple graphics packages for customer conferences across the country. While supporting DISA, Mr. Mauro also designed and tested several marketing systems for NS7 (CD based business cards, pamplets and USB memory stick based business cards) as well as the NS72, labor/time tracking databases. Also during this assignment Mr. Mauro managed and provided logistical support for all the NS7 website portals. At his own initiative, Mr. Mauro designed, tested and provided logistics support for a prototype portal which became the production system for NS7.

As a Systems Analyst, provided direct support to the Chief Systems Engineer, MHS. Provided Enterprise Architecture, engineering analysis and planning support for Joint Medical Information Systems (JMISO) Program Executive Office (PEO) a $750M+/year IT Acquisition organization. During this assignment Mr. Mauro developed, implemented and tested several tools that supported the engineering and architectural analysis of the MHS data integration and systems infrastructure between and amongst all existing systems. The tools provided an enterprise systems perspective including the analysis of several customized databases and a wide range of custom queries and reports. Included was a unique enterprise systems view of the entire Military Healthcare System IT infrastructure, which, for the first time identified and described all known information exchanges down to the data element level. The infrastructure included over 100 systems and tens of thousands of data elements within an interconnected global network representing a multi-billion dollar inventory of computing assets. The diagram became the gold standard for all future engineering, Analysis of Alternatives and interoperability baseline studies. The data interoperability database provided many process improvement benefits and return on investment opportunities to reduce inefficiencies within the complex communications infrastructure. The MHS is the fourth largest healthcare delivery system in the world. As a certified SA, Mr. Mauro worked with several MHS project offices to collect, develop and maintain all appropriate System Views.

As a technical analyst & computer technician supported the design, implementation, testing and logistics support of the MHS Enterprise Data Warehouse for Medical Decision Support. Documented, tested and helped maintain extremely complex process flows for accuracy regarding the data extraction and information transformation routines to include the data management processes for all data and records ingested by the Enterprise Medical Business Data Warehouse. Also, implemented, tested and maintained training environments, installed and maintained cable plants, installed and maintained both Microsoft and Apple computers and networks for several large offices.
