I presently coordinate the hydrology-biogeochemistry monitoring program at the Dorset Environmental Science Centre (DESC) studying catchments in the Muskoka/Haliburton region of south central Ontario. This includes long-term data collection and data management on key environmental variables and fluxes, as well as shorter-term process based research. Over nearly four decades, the Hydrology-Biogeochemistry research program at DESC has documented how water and solute fluxes respond to natural and human drivers including climate, climate change, atmospheric deposition (acid rain) and land development. I conducted basin wide monitoring efforts while with the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority. This involved provincial level monitoring programs into surface and ground water quality, extended monitoring into nutrient loads and stream flow monitoring in support of core programs of flood forecasting and drought monitoring.My strengths have been in researching and deploying new technologies in hydrological, meteorological and more recently limnological observing systems including data management. This has led to cross-disciplinary work and the chance to evaluate, design, deploy and manage large and complex monitoring networks.
