At the Company grade level (Lieutenants and Captains), they lead staff sections (3-15 people), Platoons (15-45 people) and Companies (45-200 people). Officers plan and organize training/missions, lead organizations, conduct risk analysis and select mitigation strategies , supervise the execution of tasks, and conduct long term and short term scoping of organizational resources. Officers are mentors and leaders, they write performance reviews, situational counselings, and disciplinary judgements. Officer's are frequently responsible for overseeing and managing contracts, budgets, and hand receipts for sensitive and/or major end items worth thousands and sometimes millions of dollars. Officers are required to attain a 4 year bachelors degree and encouraged to earn a graduate level degree. They are required to hold a security clearance of Secret or higher. Army Officers serve for a minimum of 6 years in either the Active Forces, Federal Reserve, or National Guard; with Officers at times moving between the three components throughout their careers.
